Former Genoa defender Radu Dragusin’s agent criticised Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglu, reveals why Napoli was rejected and hints he ‘won’t stay’ on the bench next season.

The centre-back had been on the verge of joining Napoli in the January transfer window, with interest also from Bayern Munich, but decided to make the move to the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur instead.

The 22-year-old cost €25m plus up to €6m in bonuses, but made only six Premier League appearances for Spurs.

Agent Florin Manea spoke to Radio CRC today and confessed he had always been in favour of Napoli instead.

“It would’ve been better for him, especially for the sunshine, but it was his choice. Now he needs to be patient, he has two important players in front of him in the pecking order and eventually he will find space too.”

Dragusin played in a three-man defence at Genoa, but the representative was openly critical of Tottenham coach Postecoglu’s tactics.

“The coach said many times he does not want to play with a three-man defence, evidently he knows best, but Tottenham concede a ton of goals. Playing with three gives more security.

“I also think Tottenham concede a lot of goals from set plays, so Dragusin would be very helpful due to his power in the air, he used to get all the headers at Genoa.”

During his time in Italy, Dragusin was also part of the Juventus squad and was inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He was struck by how professional Ronaldo was and tries to imitate him by working hard in the gym, eating well and going to bed early.”

Napoli still want Dragusin

Considering the frustration at the lack of playing time and criticism of Postecoglu’s tactics, could Dragusin return to Serie A?

“If he doesn’t play, then we have to think about other solutions, but he only arrived in January, so that seems unlikely right now,” replied his agent.

“If Bayern and Tottenham hadn’t been there, he would’ve chosen Napoli. If they were to offer a loan, especially if Antonio Conte was the coach, then we could evaluate that.

“I can say that if Postecoglu told Dragusin that he is only considered an alternative to the other centre-backs, then he would not stay just to sit on the bench.”
