How aggressive will the Calgary Flames get this offseason?
Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Pike of Flames Nation joined Daily Faceoff Live to talk about how the Calgary Flames could get aggressive this offseason when it comes to free agents.

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Flames of course have added Yegor Sharangovich and later added Daniil Miromanov on defense in the Noah Hanifin deal. What do you think the strategy will be for the Flames this offseason and do you think Conroy and the Flames should have a harder lean into the future or do you think he should be adding talent and trying to keep the Flames afloat and not a basement dweller like San Jose?

Ryan Pike: Well Craig has been pretty adamant that he doesn’t want the team to get used to losing. Even when Brad Treliving began his rebuild with the club in 2013-14 the arena remained full as fans knew what direction they were going. I think in this market the fans will give them a certain amount of runway based on how transparent they have been about the process. But I also think you need to put a product on the ice that has competitive value. I think with the salary cap going up and you even go look on CapFriendly, a lot of teams have spent their money already.

Ryan Pike: You look at Vegas and their peculiar situation with LTIR too so if you’re the Flames you have a big chance to go out and get another team overpaid second pairing guy or a team’s second-line centre and fill the gaps on the roster. I think part of the reason they have been able to give a run to these young guys is it’s a “What don’t you have a this point” scenario.

Ryan Pike: You want to have a team that is of note when you open the new arena in 2027, how do you get there? How do you get here without throwing your top prospect into the deep end without any life preserver, you want to build success and put up some guard rails for these guys and just figure out what you need to get in order to bring them along will be a big plus.
