'SNL' alum Leslie Jones will host the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 16

Leslie Jones knows how to command a stage, and she's bringing her expertise to the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The 53-year-old actress and comedienne announced Wednesday morning that she will take over hosting duties Sunday, May 16:

"Yasss!!! Trust me, you don’t want to miss this!!" she urged in a separate tweet.

The awards show revealed its field of nominees earlier this month, including Jones under the best comedic performance category for her role in Coming 2 America.

Jones's resume is loaded beyond the long-awaited Coming to America sequel, though. The three-time Primetime Emmy nominee became an undeniable force as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2014-19, then she hosted Netflix comedy special Time Machine in 2020.

And even when she's not working, she's working: her Twitter account has become a comedic haven, recapping televised events as they happen. She became the unofficial go-to Olympics commentator on Twitter during the 2016 Rio Games only for NBC to officially hire her, and she kept the tweets coming once the 2018 Winter Olympics rolled around.

Nominations are led by WandaVision's five nods, followed by a three-way tie between Emily in Paris, RuPaul's Drag Race and The Boys's four nominations apiece. Voting remains open here through Friday (April 30).

The always-fun and lighthearted ceremony will broadcast from the Palladium in Los Angeles beginning at 9 p.m. EST on Sunday, May 16.
