Fictional homes that we'd like to live in

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in one of those memorable homes or apartments seen on television or in a film? Whether a spacious mansion or a matchbox apartment, fictional residences play a big part in some of the most beloved TV shows and movies through the decades. Here are some of the most notable fictional places we'd like to call home.

0001 Cemetery Lane ('The Addams Family')

0001 Cemetery Lane ('The Addams Family')
MGM Television

We're talking about the beloved television series from the 1960s, not the various incarnations that followed. The series theme song claimed, "Their house is a museum." More like a house of the macabre. Of course, if the various assortment of strange and creepy servants and house guests like skyscraper butler Lurch (Ted Cassidy), the stand-along hand known as Thing, and the ever-popular Cousin Itt, we would have our bags packed and be there in a second.

112 Ocean Avenue ('The Amityville Horror')

112 Ocean Avenue ('The Amityville Horror')
American International Pictures

From the 1979 movie based on the popular novel from earlier in the decade. While the house is charming from the outside, new inhabitants George (James Brolin) and Kathy Lutz (Margot Kidder) probably did not know what they were in for when they purchased this pad in Amityville, N.Y. Maybe don't buy a home where someone was murdered. That said, confirmed horror fans would probably get a kick out of spending some time here.

Delta Tau Chi Fraternity house ('Animal House')

Delta Tau Chi Fraternity house ('Animal House')
Universal Pictures

For some, the true college experience includes being a fraternity or sorority member. If partying and having a good time is all a college boy has in mind, then the Delta house at esteemed Faber College is the place to be. Annual events would likely include a raucous rush party, the famed Roman toga party (with the sounds of Otis Day and the Knights), and the opportunity to enjoy a road trip. However, it's the cast of characters like Bluto (John Belushi), Otter (Tim Matheson), or Flounder (Stephen Furst) that makes the Delta living experience truly worthwhile.

Wayne Manor ('Batman')

Wayne Manor ('Batman')
Warner Bros.

Whether talking about the beloved DC comics, campy television series, or the myriad of films involving the Cape Crusader, Wayne Manor has been a consistent backdrop. Over the decades and through the various mediums of portrayal, Wayne Manor has served as Wayne Foundation headquarters, featured a penthouse living area, and was located directly above the mysterious Bat Cave. In any case, it would seem like a fun place to call home for a bit.

"Casa Walsh" ('Beverly Hills, 90210')

"Casa Walsh" ('Beverly Hills, 90210')

The physical outside and indoor structure of the Walsh family home in Beverly Hills was nothing special. We liked that Brandon (Jason Priestly) and Brenda (Shannen Doherty) had a bathroom adjoining their bedroom, and the backyard was ideal for a back-to-school cookout. For the most part, parents Jim and Cindy and the aforementioned twins were a tight-knit group. The house was also a safe haven for friends like Dylan and Kelly, and even the homeless or old girlfriends.

Brady residence ('The Brady Bunch')

Brady residence ('The Brady Bunch')
YouTube

Arguably the most famous television home of all time. Located in the Los Angeles area, presumably, 4222 Clinton Way was the home of Mike (Robert Reed), Carol (Florence Henderson), their six kids, housekeeper Alice, and dog Tiger. According to show creator Sherwood Schwartz, the exterior shots of the house were picked because it looked like a home where an architect would live. After all, that was Mike's profession. Known for its famous staircase, artificial turf backyard, and the lone upstairs bathroom for the six kids to share. Over the years, the house has been part of many Brady follow-up series and reality projects — notably, A Very Brady Renovation

Southfork Ranch ('Dallas')

Southfork Ranch ('Dallas')
YouTube

The famed home of the Ewing family from the original Dallas series (1978-91) and the latter-day version from 2012-14. The mansion is the main attraction, where deals were made, relationships ruined, family ties shattered, bourbon swilled, and Lucy (Charlene Tilton) hanging out by the pool. For diehard fans of the classic series, the actual Southfork Ranch, located roughly 30 miles northeast of Dallas, is open to tours and available to host various events.

Cameron's house ('Ferris Buehler's Day Off')

Cameron's house ('Ferris Buehler's Day Off')
Paramount Pictures

Set and filmed in Chicago's North Shore area, Cameron Frye's home (the real-life Ben Rose House in Highland Park, Ill.) is responsible for one of the most memorable scenes in the movie. As Ferris (Matthew Broderick) tried to roll back the odometer on the Ferrari so Cameron's dad wouldn't know they took it out, it flies through the massive windows that encase the upscale garage. The entire house is a wonder to the eyes. Modern, spacious, and exudes wealth. Unfortunately for Cameron (Alan Ruck), it wasn't a happy place.

Banks' Mansion ('The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air')

Banks' Mansion ('The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air')

Will Smith went from West Philadelphia to ritzy Bel-Air to live with Uncle Phil and the family. It seemed like your garden variety mansion. Spacious, well attended, and something for everybody. However, if the cast of characters, such as cousin Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro) or butler Jeffrey (Joseph Marcell), are included in our stay, we're all in.

Chandler and Joey's apartment ('Friends')

Chandler and Joey's apartment ('Friends')
The WB Television Network

The first of Friends' two most prominent living quarters. To no surprise, Chandler's (Matthew Perry) and Joey's (Matt LeBlanc) apartment was a total "guys" place. The leather recliners, big-screen television (perfect for regular viewings of Baywatch), and the foosball table doubling as their dining area. Who would have thought a Manhattan apartment could comfortably house a chick and a duck? We won't mention when the guys were robbed, thanks to Joey forcing them to sit in a canoe and lounge on some patio furniture.

Monica (Courteney Cox) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) lived here briefly after losing a bet, and Rachel later moved back in with Joey while she was pregnant.

Monica and Rachel's apartment ('Friends')
The WB Television Network

As Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) said, "This is a girl's apartment." She's right, even though Joey and Chandler did live there after she and Monica lost the apartment during the trivia contest to the guys. Naturally, with Monica (Courteney Cox) living there, the place was spotless, and the aroma of fresh food was endless. The outdoor patio area provided perfect viewing of "Ugly Naked Guy" and the same apartment when Ross later moved across the way.

Tanner Family home ('Full House')

Tanner Family home ('Full House')
Warner Bros. Television Distribution

The Tanner household was like a train station with people of all ages constantly coming and going. The good news is that the house was always clean, thanks to obsessive-compulsive patriarch Danny Tanner (Bob Saget). Though the Tanner sisters did their best to disrupt the house, it seemed most of the mess was created by Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) and Joey (Dave Coulier) with their crazy antics. Still, the Tanners' beloved San Francisco house was filled with much love.

Kevin McAllister's house ('Home Alone')

Our experience living in the McAllister family home in north suburban Chicago would not be complete if young Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) weren't there. After all, who would booby trap the house from any unsuspecting burglars that might want to break in? At the center of the upper-middle-class home is the famed staircase that Kevin used to his advantage while making the lives of intruders Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) feel like time spent in hell.

Jetson Family home ('The Jetsons')

Jetson Family home ('The Jetsons')
Screen Gems; Worldvision Enterprises

The Skypad Apartments within Orbit City is where George Jetson, his wife Jane, daughter Judy and boy Elroy — plus dog Astro — call home. Rosie, the robot maid, makes space-age, futuristic life easier for the Jetson family. There are plenty of gadgets to play around with and buttons to press in the Jetson household. The family rarely needs to lift a finger. Talk about living the life.

The Burrow ('Harry Potter')

The Burrow ('Harry Potter')

The home of the Weasley family, The Burrow was also like a second home to Harry (Daniel Radcliffe). It's a magical place despite its rather rickety outdoor façade. Dishes wash themselves, which enamors Harry and his pals. It's one of the true pleasures within the world of the Harry Potter franchise.

Emmett's barn house ('Road House')

Emmett's barn house ('Road House')
YouTube

There's just something about Dalton's living quarters when he takes the job of cooler at the Double Deuce in Jasper, Missouri. There's not much to the place, owned by likable local Emmett. Loft-style living quarters upstairs, the barn on the bottom for Dalton to park his luxury car that he rarely drives. The only downside might be the "fragrance of nature" and straight-on view of local exhorter Brad Wesley's compound. For $100 a month, though, it's a steal.

Jerry's apartment ('Seinfeld')

Jerry's apartment ('Seinfeld')
Columbia Pictures Television

Jerry Seinfeld's apartment is the epicenter of the Seinfeld universe. Many schemes were hatched there, relationships have ended within the confines of those walls, snacks munched on often, and Kramer's energetic and entertaining entrances cannot be forgotten. The fridge is usually well-stocked with plenty of Snapple.

Stratton Residence ('Silver Spoons')

Stratton Residence ('Silver Spoons')

It should be no surprise that a toy company executive had a hard time growing up. Edward Stratton III (Joel Higgins) was a kid with an adult's body. His mansion came complete with a foosball table, arcade video games, a pinball machine, and that ridable train that would seem more fitting at an amusement park. What kid wouldn't want to live there?

Sam Baldwin's houseboat ('Sleepless in Seattle')

Sam Baldwin's houseboat ('Sleepless in Seattle')
YouTube

There might not be a finer Hollywood houseboat than the one Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) owned in Seattle. Sure, it was a sad time for Sam and his son Jonah (Ross Mellinger) following his wife's death from cancer, but their unique living quarters added to the intrigue of his famed romantic comedy. The real-life houseboat was located in Seattle's Lake Union area and, as of 2014, was worth roughly $2 million.

Mr. Fredricksen's house ('Up')

Mr. Fredricksen's house ('Up')
YouTube

Wouldn't it be an adventure to live in a house capable of cracking off its foundation and floating in the air, thanks to the aid of countless balloons? Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner) was able to make it happen. Believing, hoping, and setting airborne sail to South America and Paradise Falls. Inside and out, Carl's old, classic beloved house was truly a special place and one anybody should be proud to call home.
