Frustration is high with the Kentucky Football program, inside the program and out. It’s not just because of the on-the-field product of two straight losses, but also the lack of discipline and bad attitudes amongst other things.

Last week, the media asked assistant coach Vince Marrow about the fan frustration his response was one of understanding. “We have raised this program to a certain standard,” Marrow said. “If our fans are upset about the way we played – hell, I’d probably be along with ’em. We are at a point now where we aren’t in 2013, where it was just show up and play football. I understand their anger.”

Pointing out that Kentucky football is no longer a doormat program of the SEC, Marrow believes Mark Stoops is the only coach who could have rebuilt the program. “Trust me, Mark Stoops – to me – is the only coach that could have done this. Where we are at right now,” Marrow said.

When asked why, Marrow gave credit to the recruiting pipeline they have built in Ohio. “I think some of the people in the past, and I knew people that had this job and people in the program, they said ‘ for some reason, they do not recruit Ohio.’ When we first got here, Ohio was one of the states that really saved us and bought credibility from players.”

While Marrow understands the fan frustration, he hopes to remind people just how difficult the SEC is and how far he and Stoops have brought the program. “This is a hard league, and where he has taken this team. I think in the last five years, he is the fourth-winningest coach in the league. If you would have told me that when we first got here – I’ll hold that comment.
